The revision process
After you have finished the first draft of your text, you need to critically review your work to refine and improve it4. To make sure you have sufficient time to ‘revise’ your work, make sure you incorporate time for this in your planning. Note that it is better to revise and edit your text after you have finished writing your draft or a complete section. In the writing stage, your writing grows ‘naturally’ while you are thinking and exploring new ideas4. If you try to already revise your work during the initial writing phase, it will restrict your thinking and creativity, and it will slow you down4.
The revision process can be separated into three parts. Ordered from largest to smallest in scale: revising, editing, and proof reading4. The different stages will be discussed in this chapter.
